The inlet air can be cooled by fogging which consists of spraying very small water droplets. Inlet fogging increases gas turbine power by cooled air that is denser therefore the mass flow increases. The inlet system fogging works by spraying a fog of high-pressure, demineralized water through a series of nozzle set around the gas turbine air inlet.

The ‘micro-fine’ droplets produced by the fogging system quickly, allowing them to cool the inlet air without negatively affecting the structure. The system can achieve turbine inlet temperature approaching of wet bulb temperatures without increase of pressure drop, when optimized. The compressor inlet is reduced with fogging system and thus augments the gas turbine output. Generally the gas turbines can have output increase by 6 to 8% with improved heat rate by almost 2% thanking to cooling air intake by 20°F (~6.6°C).
